IPTables Examples

I've found that it's useful for me to post blog articles for things that I like, just so I have an easily accessible place to look for them when I forget. Extended public memory.

For example, no matter how many machines I configure, I find myself constantly looking up syntax and wanting examples for iptables.

Archived a copy of greylist domains

Since monkeys.org stopped updating/hosting this list of greylistable domains, like hotmail.com, that are frequently forged, I've archived it. If anyone notices this and has a scheme for keeping it curent, or a better source, please let me know.

Mega Lawsuit against Router Vendors

Victims of botnet attacks and SQL Slammer outages may soon have some recourse.

DDoS-ca.org is a new organization that is trying to bring together victims of DDoS attacks in order to set up a lawsuit against Microsft, Cisco and others who have contributed to the denial of service and botnet phenomenon.

OUCH! Opaserv

The opaserv worm recently spread to about 70,000 hosts, and guess what, I know who they all are. That's because the writer of the virus used a domain name pointed at a server that I administrate. Suffice to say that the traffic generated by those 70,000 infected hosts did manage to slow our site down for an hour or so, until we got a good filter in place. About 100,000 of our clients were affected by the slowdowns.

This is on the heels of about a dozen spam attacks against our servers, and the SQL slammer attack last weekend that is *still* trying dozens of times each second, from hosts around the word, to infect our windows boxes.

On top of that my dad's site is having problems. (To be perfectly honest, that's way more annoying than all the worms and viruses put together....)
